Nestled among the green hills of Le Marche lies Caldarola, a charming little village.
What makes Caldarola immediately special is the impressive Castello Pallotta, proudly overlooking the village. The castle is well-preserved and offers a fascinating glimpse into how life used to be, complete with antique furniture, paintings, and sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.
But Caldarola is more than just a castle. The village itself has that delightful Italian atmosphere: narrow streets, small squares where time seems to stand still, and a few lovely spots to eat. Try the local cacciannanz (a type of savory focaccia) or order a plate of truffle pasta, paired with a glass of red Rosso Piceno.
Unfortunately, the 2016 earthquake caused significant damage to the historic center. Restoration efforts are ongoing, but many buildings remain closed to the public.
From Caldarola, you can easily drive to one of the other charming nearby towns, such as San Severino Marche or Tolentino.
